Supervisor of Elections Lori Scott Announces Start of “Launch the Vote Student Art Contest”
1,400 4th and 5th grade students have participated over the past 4 years

Viera, FL – Sept. 7, 2018 – Brevard County Supervisor of Elections Lori Scott’s passion to inspire future voters is what prompted her, in 2014, to create the “Launch the Vote Student Art Contest”. Since that time, more than 1,400 4th and 5th grade students have participated.

Principals were notified of the kick-off of this year’s contest for 4th and 5th grade students who are encouraged to submit artwork with a patriotic theme. Chick-fil-A has, again, agreed to be a partner in the art contest by providing prize packages for the winners.

“It is my hope this annual art contest, held during the fall election season, will spark conversations at home and in the classroom about the importance of voting,” stated Lori Scott, Brevard County Supervisor of Elections. “The student’s talent, creativity, and political insight never ceases to amaze me!”

The deadline for this year’s submissions is 5:00 p.m. on October 5, 2018. All Brevard County 4th and 5th grade students are eligible to submit artwork encompassing a patriotic theme. Artwork is judged on creativity, artistic merit and overall patriotic theme. Prize packages are provided by Chick-Fil-A with a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, (3) Honorable Mentions and a special Chick-fil-A Award.

Winning students, their parents, art teachers, and school principals will be invited to attend a special awards ceremony at the Viera Elections Office on October 23, 2018. Additionally, students will be recognized during the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners meeting that same morning. The winning artwork will be framed and displayed in the Viera Elections Office for a year and in select Chick-fil-A restaurants throughout Brevard County during the month of November.
