On May 3rd, the Brevard County Commission approved the new precinct boundaries submitted by Supervisor of Elections Lori Scott in response to Florida’s court-mandated redistricting of the Florida State Senate boundaries.

“After receiving the new State Senate districts, and annexations from numerous municipalities, precincts were redrawn for Brevard’s 398,169 voters,” said Supervisor Lori Scott. “This can be an intense process for a county our size and normally only happens once every ten years.” However, due to legal challenges to the previously drawn State Senate Districts, precincts had to be redrawn four years after the decennial redistricting conducted in 2012.  Additionally, the district numbers for Brevard’s two State Senate districts changed from 13 to 14 and 16 to 17 respectively.  The renumbering of the Senate Districts prompts the statutory requirement for new Voter Information Cards to be sent to every voter in Brevard.

“In addition to conforming precincts to reflect the changes we received, I once again tasked my staff with the job of precinct/polling site consolidation. As a result, the number of precincts in Brevard County has been reduced from 173 to 170 and the number of polling locations from 124 to 117 – saving taxpayers approximately $200,000 over the next 10 years,” said Supervisor Scott.  “I am very proud of the work my staff has done to ensure this transition is as seamless as possible for our voters.”

New “Official Voter Information Cards” will be mailed to Brevard voters in mid-June. Voters are encouraged to review the information contained on their new cards. Although the law does not allow Voter Information Cards to serve as identification at the polls, the cards contain very important information, such as: the voter’s precinct number, specific polling location, and the political party affiliation listed on file with the Supervisor of Elections. “Polling Place Change Notices” will also be mailed to any voter whose polling location was moved or altered.
