Supervisor of Elections Lori Scott announced that 80,441 absentee ballots were mailed today for the November 6th Presidential General Election. In comparison, the initial domestic mailing for the 2008 Presidential General Election was just over 35,000.

“The Elections Office has been receiving between 700 – 1000 absentee requests a day,” said Supervisor Scott. “We have been informing voters that this is a very long, two‐page, four‐sided, ballot containing 11 Constitutional Amendments. I believe that this has prompted voters to take advantage of voting from the comfort of their home, essentially making their mailbox their ballot box.”

Today’s mailing is in addition to the 4,452 Military and Overseas ballots previously sent. “In terms of mail/absentee ballots, this is already a historic Presidential General Election in Brevard County,” said Supervisor Scott.

Voters may request a mail ballot in person, by mail, online at, or by phone at (321) 633‐2127. The deadline for voters to request to receive a ballot by mail is October 31, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.

“The law has changed—you no longer have to be absent to vote by mail,” stated Supervisor Scott. “Additionally, mail/absentee ballots are the first ballots verified and counted in every election.”

Voters must sign the voter’s certificate appearing on the outside of their return ballot envelope. Per Florida law, the signature appearing on their envelope is compared to their most recent signature on file in the Elections Office. Voters needing to update their signature must do so by submitting a new Florida Voter Registration Application by October 19, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Applications are available online at

All voted ballots must be returned to the Supervisor of Elections by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 6, 2012. Mail/Absentee Ballots may be hand delivered to any of the five Election Offices throughout Brevard County.
