Who can acquire Vote-by-Mail ballot request data?

Section 101.62(2) of the Florida Statutes limits the release of Vote-by-Mail ballot request data beginning 60 days before the primary until 15 days after the general election to " ... the voter requesting the ballot, a canvassing board, an election official, a political party or official thereof, a candidate who has filed qualification papers and is opposed in an upcoming election, and registered political committees for political purposes only."

In addition, anyone requesting Vote-by-Mail ballot information must have a current signature on file with our office affirming that they are authorized by the above statute to receive Vote-by-Mail ballot information.

Where can Vote-by-Mail ballot request data be obtained?

Requests for Vote-by-Mail ballot data can be made by submitting the online Vote-by-Mail Data Request Form or by contacting one of our election offices.

How is the data formatted?

Available file format: All data is delivered by email in comma delimited text format, which can be opened by or imported into many different programs. Certain programs, such as Microsoft Excel, may have limitations which make them usable only for relatively small databases; consult your software documentation for exact limits.

How do I use the data once I get it?

Manipulation of the data described above requires software which is not provided by the Elections Office. Elections Office personnel can provide only very limited support for questions and problems. It is highly recommended that you consult someone with computer expertise prior to placing your order to determine exactly what hardware, software, and data you will need.

Here is an example of how to use the data in Microsoft Excel and Word, although these programs may not be the best to use in all circumstances.

How much does Vote-by-Mail ballot request data cost?

  • Email (for a one-time only data request): Free
  • Standing requests (includes initial request and daily updates via provided web link): $25 per election set up fee

Candidates and political committees must make payment from their campaign or committee account. Incumbent office holders must pay from their office account. Payment must be made prior to the release of information.
