Candidates must file two forms prior to officially qualifying: Form DS-DE 9 and DS-DE 84.
Nothing prohibits a person from announcing his or her intention to become a candidate prior to filing a Form DS-DE 9, however candidates may not accept any contributions, make any expenditures, or circulate petitions until the DS-DE 9 is filed with the Qualifying Officer.
Special District candidates who do not intend to collect or expend campaign funds are not required to file the DS-DE 9. An Affidavit of Intent must be submitted if a Special District Candidate chooses this option.
Additional Candidate Filing Forms:Form DS-DE 83, Statement of Candidate for Judicial Office: must be filed by the judicial candidate within 10 days after filing Form DS-DE 9.
